Meet the founder
James “Dapper” McKeag.
James “Dapper” McKeag started Chemtec in March 1982, in the garage of his house. He had a chemical engineering degree from the University of Pittsburgh, he was a proud US Air Force veteran who served in Thule, Greenland, and he had years of experience with industry giants Nalco and ChemTreat before he went out on his own. Industrial water treatment was always the focus of his work. Earlier, he drove tankers for Texaco and hauled trash in Pittsburgh. James built his legacy through the company. He passed in 2021.
“Never afraid of hard work, James always had a vision of how things should be done. I was always amazed at how he could do calculus in his head, math being a subject that he was passionate about. Being creative, on the other hand, was always a challenge that never failed to disappoint and constantly amused the people around him. He was always the first to have a smart remark, witty and funny. He had an absolute love for animals and anybody that was suffering. His heart was the biggest that I have ever come across and he will always have a place in mine.”
